10 Honest Traits

OK, another blog tag game! These are so much fun, gives you the reader to get a little more inside info on the bloggers you like to read.

Lisa Manyon of Write On Creative recently tagged me, asking me to list 10 honest things about myself then to invite more people to share on the same topic. I’ll keep mine as short and sweet as I can:

10 Honest Traits About Me

1. In 3rd grade, I had an essay published in the local newspaper. That was an early sign that I liked writing.

2. I became a grandmother before I had my first child. (Step-daughter beat me to it!)

3. I inherited a great wit from my Dad. (RIP Dad!)

4. My mom’s name is Bunny. Really.

5. My induction into PR was the Flea Market Wedding in Hayward, CA, early 80′s. The janitor and his girlfriend found themselves in a family way and we staged a wedding in the asphalt parking lot, complete with a 13 year old accordion player and bikers as attendants. I was a teenager working in the snack bar at the time. I was probably wearing a tube top and fixing the feathers in my hair.

6. I have a strong spiritual sense and connection to a higher power, in spite of 12 years of strict parochial education.

7. I don’t spend nearly as much time online as it looks! (Learn some of my secrets here)

8. Haven’t had TV at all in my home since September 2008. We watch DVDs and YouTube. Makes life a whole lot simpler, and I get a whole lot more done.

9. I once pulled over to the side of the freeway and helped a woman and her 2 children out of an overturned vehicle. The guy with me said to keep driving. We broke up soon thereafter.

10. In senior year of high school, I ditched the Baccalaureate Mass and saw the English Beat at the Kabuki in San Francisco. It was one of their last shows before they split up. My parents didn’t find out til a week later- I’d hid all the info about the Mass from them so I could go to the show! They weren’t too pleased.

I now tag the following friends and ask for their 10 Honest Traits. Then they’ll each tag 7-10 people:

These are some very interesting traits. I'm glad you didn't ask me, I wouldn't know where to start!

    Hey Nancy,

I love blog tag! It's great to learn about everyone.

Okay, my 10 items are up at http://www.FromTheDeskofSandraMartini.com — I shared what I'd be doing if my biz hadn't worked out so well, my reasons for learning Turkish and Chinese (among others), what made me a vegetarian (and it wasn't nutrition!) and a few other things I've never shared before. ;-)

    Hey Nancy

I loved visualising the flea market wedding. What a great story. It reminded me of a wedding we held impromptu on a boat in the Galapagos. We made bouquets out of coloured toilet paper! I'd forgotten until I read your story.

    Nancy,

You could do ten more of these and STILL have a dozen more interesting facts about yourself! Want a great idea. I was actually thinking of various ways to create interesting video profiles. This is short, sweet and personal…love it. Thanks for tagging me!

LOVE your traits, and you have about 100 or so more to share.

I'll just share one about me: I'm ilogically loyal! – On my last year of high school, Mother Superior had an argument with my best friend during rec time, and in front of me, she slapped my friend in the face, so I slapped Mother Superior back. (Don't mess with my friends and my loved-ones) Yes, I was expelled two months prior to graduation; I went to see the Chancellor of The Dioceses of Miami, explained what happened, he had me re-instated, and Mother Superior was assigned to a Novice School after graduation. It was uncovered she had been physically abusing kids for a long time!

Oh Ali, that is too funny. I got into quite a heap of trouble with the nuns when I was in parochial school too! I love your fierce loyalty, a comadre through and through!!!

Hey, cool post. Very closely aligned with the 25 Things post that is making its way around Facebook these days. Way to stop and help the overturned vehicle situation and way to dump the loser guy!

  • http://www.rock-ballads.com Rock Ballads

Congrats on getting ride of the television. Seriously, my wife and I need to do the same thing. I can't even tell you have many re-runs of Friends, King of Queens, and Sienfeld we have watched. I can recite almost ever episode in my head! Pathetic.

You know, you can waste nearly as much time on YouTube as on television. Loved reading those (and coming up with 10 is a lot easier than 25!)

  • http://www.changingyourstoryblog.com Melani Ward

I personally love the image of you "fixing the feathers in your hair". :)
