Blip This! Spinning Tunes to Share With Your Followers

If you’re the kind of person who likes to add personality to your social networking, sizzle to your visibility (Sizzibility) AND has cool taste in music, then you definitely want to check out Blip.fm.

Blip allows you to start a playlist of favorite songs and then click a button to turn it into a Twitter Tweet, a Facebook post, or an update on a number of other sites. The update you share has a link to the song adding a musical ambience to your social networking.

Why would you want to add a music stream to your social networking?

Here are 3 reasons why plus ideas you can use to launch your social networking DJ alter ego:

1. Reinforce Your Brand
Ever heard a jingle? Popular music in a TV commercial? A soundtrack behind a movie? There’s your social proof that music adds a rich dimension to promotion and marketing. It creates a new hook for people to associate you with.

What songs would be a reflection of your brand? I created a Viva Visibility Latin Jazz set that is rythmic, exotic, fun, and gets you to move. Hmmm, sounds a little like my brand? You better believe it!

(I’m also eclectic and creative, so as you explore my Blip station, you’ll find links to blues, rock, reggae, and more)

2. Build Relationships
Music is a bridge builder, so use it to create fans and followers. A brilliant example of this is speaker and viral video star Scott Stratten’s use of Blip.fm (check out Scott’s Blip Station)

Every so often Scott treats his Twitter followers to a dance party. He stirs good feelings, nostalgia, and just plain FUN. Each time he posts a song on Blip, he sends it out as a Tweet.  He creates anticipation for the next song, makes connections with people, and stands out as creative and original.

3. Enhance Your “Sizzibility”

Sizzibility is a term I coined that means adding sizzle to your visibility (sizzle + visibility = Sizzibility). It’s all about applying your imagination to your business, branding, and online visibility.

When using music to enhance your online persona, don’t get hung up by being too literal. Find songs that will make you stand out, connect with others and showcase your originality. Dare to step outside the box and mix in favorite tunes from the past as well as the present.

Is music a worthy addition to your social networking or a distracting add-on?  Share your thoughts here. If you have a music station online, be sure to leave a link to it in the comments.

Rock on!!!

Nice Post Nancy!! I think it's great to share music and sound with our peeps – it's another way for them to connect to us and us to connect with them around a common "vibe" shall we say!!

As a Sound Healer/Therapist I am aware that there is so much that we can do with SOUND and Soundscaping to influence our own mood and to lighten, shift, and harmonize the moods of others. Need to get motivated – send some Dance Music and you'll get the party started. Want to relax – send a little smooth jazz and set the tone for quiet contemplation – and can we say SALSA?? Well of course you know what that's for don't you Queen of Sizzability??!!

Blip.fm is a really easy and fun tool that combines the best of sharing your fave music with the ability to add your own commentary. Plus it's FUN!! We can all use a little more fun, light, and vibrancy in our days. It's through exercising our FUN muscles that we are able to access the highest levels of inspiration and connection to others.

Thnx for being a BEACON in the Social Networking World SisTAR!

I think sharing music with followers is a great idea … the only issue is that Blip.fm and the like are probably going to get shut down, because (per my reading of their site/TOS) they are not paying licensing fees for public performance of the music.

My understanding is that their music is uploaded by users (who get from CDs or mp3 downloads), and the sharing of that music is not okay under U.S. copyright law (remember mp3.com, napster, etc.). Hopefully though someone like Pandora (who's got their legal act together) will get hooked up w/ twitter on this!

Damn! guess we'll have to party til the cops come. I was wondering about that, hope it is able to get resolved into a win-win-win (win for musicians, win for listeners, win for Blip)

I recently started using Blip and absolutely love it! It's really fun to Tweet out tunes which are meaningful faves of mine and have others message me how they love the songs too.

It absolutely is fantastic for relationship and community building as well as adding to your "social personality."

I also use the Boombox app on the iPhone to create playlists of songs from Blip.fm.

Elizabeth–I was wondering about that. I hope they do figure out a way to stay above board because it is such a fun site. I actually prefer it now to Pandora and LastFm.

I've really like it. So fun and easy to use. When I blip out my songs it lets people know who I am, what I value and what generation I come from. It won't take you long to know I'm a child of the 60's.

Because I deal with mostly business people, it lets me see another side of them, a more relaxed playful side.

Music is something that brings all people together. That you can listen to music, brand yourself and party with fellow Tweeters is beyond cool!
