One of the best visibility tips I can share is to have a great blog that serves as your home base.
People often ask which is the best social media site to start with, but I answer “None of them. Start with your blog!”
Ask anyone who’s ever had their Facebook account deactivated or their Twitter account compromised and they’ll say: don’t put all your social networking eggs in 1 basket!
Here are 3 great reasons why:
1. Your Blog is Your Turf
Social networking sites may come and go but your blog is your property. You have control over it and you know what’s going on behind the scenes. Your blog can’t be deactivated or corrupted by an outside force (unless you get hacked, but let’s assume that’s not going to happen).
Think: OWNERSHIP.
2. RSS Feeds = Your Very Own Ultra-Efficient Secretary
Blogs have RSS feeds, which in my opinion, are a gift that keeps on giving. If I could personify my blog’s RSS feed, it would be Miss Hathaway from The Beverly Hillbillies. “Yes Chief!” she says as she makes sure all the i’s are dotted and the t’s crossed.
You can import your blog to most social networking sites so when your blog publishes on your site, it simultaneously publishes on other sites…with no added effort on your part. “Miss Hathaway” gets it all done for you.
Meanwhile, you’re driving your Cadillac convertible under the Beverly Hills palm trees while Elly May gives her pet chimp a bath in your cement pond.
3. Traffic!
Your blog gives a place for clients, prospects, and web searchers to get additional information. The traffic will increase your search engine rankings, associate your name more strongly with your industry and give an added dose of credibility.
I regularly get Tweets and messages from people who use my Quick and Easy Social Networking For Entrepreneurs system.
The time it saves amplifies the “Miss Hathaway” effect at least 20 times. And the blog traffic reports I get from users is awesome.
It’s really easy to make your blog the home base for massive social media success. Follow these tips and watch your influence grow!
