Online Visibility Tip: Get Quiet Before You Get Bigger

Giving out online visibility and social media tips to someone who’s NOT READY for the business is like handing a highly charged 16 year old the keys to a Corvette.  Not always the right mix…  gas pedals tend to be engaged before brains.

What happens? For some it’s a thrill ride to be remembered, but for many others it brings on anxiety and the risk of crashing.

Case in point: There’s a guy on YouTube who I adore watching. He gives out health tips and has a real flair for engaging his audience. He’s funny, charming, authentic… a really great mix. But what started off as a lark has turned into massive visibility for him and I’m witnessing the headaches that go with it.

His style is changing. He seems stressed out. He shares about the overwhelm of all the attention. I feel for the guy and really want him to do well… and I can see that the online visibility opened doors he may not have been fully prepared to deal with.

My advice: Get quiet before you get bigger.

The internet bombards us with LOTS of voices, opinions, and energy. Add in text messages, phone calls and we’re really dealing with lots of interaction. Even us extroverts are looking for nooks and crannies to hide in.

So I invite you to find quiet time every day to connect back to your inner voice and guidance. This matters so much to me that I’ve brought in 2 experts on the topic to help with my program Discover Your Profitable Essence. One will be a call specifically addressing the need to get quiet and one will be an ongoing meditation you can use to clear away the unwanted energy you accumulate when highly visible.

Here are 3 things you can start doing RIGHT NOW to recharge your Profitable Essence so you can step into the spotlight full, whole, and powerful.

1. Create Quiet Time

If you don’t have a consistent time in your day go into the silence, then start. You can set your alarm a few minutes early to meditate, breathe, or affirm. You can also take some time before you go to sleep to “debug” all the information from the day.

2. Unplug

If you’re an email addict or you find yourself reaching for your iPhone every few minutes, notice that and move on. Not forever, but at least for a structured period of time. Nothing feels more free than having some unfettered time during the day. That constant checking adds to the constant chatter… and that constant chatter can lead to your highly visible meltdown.

3. Remember What You’re Great At

Everyone has incredible traits and talents they bring to the table. But well meaning advisers can point you away from your talents to get you out of a short term bind. For instance, I know an incredibly talented coach who can completely shift a negative mindset into a powerful, positive one. But someone told her that mindset doesn’t sell so she couched this amazing talent under the name “business coaching”.

We worked together on discovering her Profitable Essence, and from that we connected the dots to illustrate how a business owner’s  mindset literally and tangibly impacts the bottom line of a business. That insight alone opened up a whole new way to position her services and command rock star prices.

If happiness is an inside job, then so is success in your business. Online visibility and social media fame are what the public sees. But the fuel underneath it all is what runs the hot rod that is you.

So true. I especially love the last line " the fuel underneath it all is what runs the hot rod that is you"

Without maintaining the sanctity of who we are… we run the risk of getting absorbed by the media overload. Thanks for the very helpful tips.

Great advice Nancy. It is so important to stay connected to your own inner-voice…or inner -freak as I like to say. Rock On! Leah

That's good stuff, Nancy. I don't know how anyone runs on overdrive constantly. At Zero To Sixty Marketing, we get centered before we start each day. We didn't start off like that, but realized soon after we got rolling that we would need to establish some personal and introspective standards by which to do business or we'd explode. It's really given way to great ideas and motivating approaches. We wouldn't have it any other way, and appreciate your perspective on turning down the chatter.
