I've been working as a Virtual Assistant on a low profile and I'm interested on enhance my skills and knowledge to start adding more clients. Do you have any recommendation about training or courses that'd help me to achieve these goals? I'd appreciate any orientation you can give me.

Many blessings,

Valentina, I know from 1st hand experience that it's important to have somewhat of an understanding of things before you outsource. I hate to micromanage, but I also hate to find out if I gave the wrong job to the wrong person. There is a balance to be reached. Thanks for your insights, I think a lot of readers will identify with what you said.

Gasp!

Alas I am guilty! Truth is I have just about depleted my war chest on courses/subscriptions/software & more ... all of it valuable, if not fully utilized. I think one of the issues is that I just took too much on not thinking about the time, or if I did, I rationalized with "it's good to have to get to next"

Recently I have gone over my current "standing orders" and unsubsribed quite a few, both the free ones and the paid ones. They are all valuable and it took a lot to do that.

I made a list of the current things I do in my business that I do not want to do, and beside that put an estimate of what it would cost to outsource.

My goals are now to chunk away at that list, starting with the least expensive. As soon as my monthly IM income reaches that amount times 1.5 (the .5 to build up my war chest) that item gets outsourced. I plan to do that until my "don't want to do" list is outsourced to those who are good at the tasks and love to do them.

But here is the thing. Being the chef and the bottle washer I am familiar with what it takes to do a certain task. Dan Lok, one of my mentors says that you need to know how to do what it is you are outsourcing - you do not need to be an expert, but you need to have an understanding. One it builds your own IM muscles, but more importantly, you are less likely to be hoodwinked.

That may be a sad commentary to make but it is true. Some of the most successful gurus have been taken for a ride and it cost not only with dollars and cents, but time and effort to redo etc.

Your comments are so, so true. Some people just arent aware of the impact not delegated does to their business development and don't even know what they should delegate. I get clients to ask themselves "is this a revenue generating task" or "is this my area of real stength" or "if someone can do this for a cheaper hourly rate than mine then delegate it". Helps to create awareness and focus.
Best wishes
