Speaking My Truth About Rumors and Gossip

"Gossip" by Norman Rockwell

This morning my phone rang with an urgent message from a colleague.

“Nancy, there’s something circulating about you that you need to know about.”

Besides feeling like I just entered a scene from Desperate Housewives or All My Children, I took a deep breath and joked, “Well, I guess that means I’ve officially made it to the big time!”

But gossip isn’t a joking matter, especially when it’s a swirl of misconceptions and your name pops up.

I’ve never actually had this happen before… wait, I take that back. This did happen before… IN SIXTH GRADE which is what this feels like.

And because I teach what I’ve personally experienced (please remember that), I am called to turn this around and share it with my peeps.

So let’s start with a big clearing of the air…

It was insinuated (and I’m not really sure by whom, but the omnipresent “they” were invoked) that I took someone else’s idea and passed it off as my own. I’m more used to being the one others copy than the copying culprit.

For years I’ve had my web copy “inspire” other people’s home pages, my Facebook profile artfully “modeled”, copyrighted materials appear under someone else’s banner, and even program ideas serve as “launchpoints” for others.

And you know what I do when this happens?

Nothing.

Why?

Because I know who I am and that even if someone were to get plastic surgery to look like me and change their name to Nancy Marmolejo, there would only be one me. I know the authority of my expertise and the power that it puts into the world.

The unique fingerprint tells no lies.

I’m the incomparable combo of Mexican-Aztec-German-American genetics packed into a 5’10″ frame, housing a brand of genius that’s unmatchable.

And because I’m incomparable, that means YOU are incomparable too. Even if you’re a 5’10″ tall Mexican-Aztec-German-American dynamo who decides to name your business Viva Visibility and throw a live event in June called I Heart My Biz, you won’t be me.

Get it? Comprendes?

MANY VOICES CAN SING A SIMILAR SONG and there’s plenty of room for all of us.

Even if you use add in words to your titles  like purpose, passion, profit, money, meaning, diamond, platinum, inner circle, or mastermind you will NOT be a copycat because you’re putting YOUR unique stamp on it.

Period.

Here’s what I think happened to spark all this craziness.

I shifted the focus of my business in late 2009 after having a big revelation. That revelation was that my original work being a creative force for business owners got muddied up by my intense involvement in social media and my subsequent programs teaching social media strategies.

I’d meet people who didn’t really know what I did or how I helped businesses. People wanted me to be a trainer when I’m way more visionary than that.

So I’m simply experiencing the backlash of going to social media then circling back to my bigger vision business strategizing.

Quick Nancy history so you understand the big picture:

I began my business in 2003 with an emphasis on helping creative minded entrepreneurs take their ideas to market. Check out this “about the author” blurb from a creativity article published on January 6, 2005:

Nancy Marmolejo helps creative and entrepreneurial women hone in on their core strengths to turn ideas into action. She helps both the wildly creative and the mildly creative launch innovative ideas, enter new markets and build upon natural talents.

That was in 2005 and it sure sounds like my current focus of Profitable Essence. Talk about going full circle, right?

Beginning in 2006, I used social media to get my name out there. It was very helpful- I won national awards, was written up in major magazines, life was good. And in 2008 everyone wanted to know how I did it. Enter Nancy the social media strategist.

Social media is intoxicating and fun but soon began to lose its luster. You want to be the person who knows the latest killer app or be the one who’s discovered the shortcut everyone else has been jonesing for. I decided in late 2009 that I wanted to be the person who got to rest and unplug for a while.

I also started to notice a disturbing trend among social media “experts” and highly visible entrepreneurs:

The majority weren’t making any money.

From a moral perspective I had to stand back and look at this. How am I helping people pump up their visibility if they have nothing to offer on the back end? How can I help all the people I’ve taught to be visible get some money in their pockets? I realize now, I was contributing to the “build it and they will come” fantasy by not having that firmly in place.

The Perfect Storm

My waning interest in being a social media expert coupled with the profitability problem collided in Fall 2009. I called a number of colleagues and shared that I needed to recalibrate my business. I wasn’t looking for a new brand, rather a new understanding of what I really bring to the table and how it’s unique.

My business is more than teaching visibility tactics. It’s about building heart based, profitable businesses that expertly leverage visibility. It’s about helping people discover their Profitable Essence.

That’s my medicine. Always has been, always will be. If you haven’t known me long, you’ll understand that I use “medicine” in the Native American spiritual context. It’s our gifts and how we express them in the world for the greater good.

So that’s where it stands.

But let me give you one more example because I’m on a bit of a roll here.

When I created an audio course in 2007 on how to stand out as an expert, I made it clear that there really isn’t anything new under the sun, we just each put our own spin on information. If you were to go to any bookstore and look at cookbooks, you’d find 10 titles for Italian cooking, 15 titles for low fat recipes, etc.

The lasagna recipe in one book may not be all that different than another, but each author has infused it with their own flair and style.

The same is true with business.

We are inspired by each other’s ideas, just like artists in a studio . Can you imagine if Picasso staked a claim on modern art and berated anyone else for trying his methods? We wouldn’t have any innovation.

My flair is the way I approach my work. So if I say I’m going to teach you in 3 days how to create a business that draws upon your greatest strengths and makes you more money than ever before, I mean it. And I’m going to present that to you in my style, with my hand picked experts, with my truth. I can name 5 people off the top of my head who either are or have done live events on similar themes. Who’s the copycat? Who owns massive breakthroughs for helping professionals? Are there only 100 people in the world we’re marketing to?

Insanity.

Resolution

Spring Equinox ceremony 2008

When this matter was first brought to my attention, I was shocked.

But I knew not to go on the defensive, that’s not the way for me. I’d rather come out standing tall, knowing my truth, knowing my medicine, and opening my arms to anyone who has a bone to pick with me to first have a hug.

The world is full of ideas. We are not lacking any.

Right now, there is a massive emergence of entrepreneurs like myself who are being called to drive their businesses towards the beacon of heart based, money making strategies.

Just like the star in the Bethlehem sky, it’s calling people from wide and far.

There’s no copying going on anywhere.

We’re simply witnessing a massive spiritual migration in action, unfolding very publicly, and doing a LOT of good for people all over the planet.

The Native American talking circle is a tradition where you pass a  feather and the person holding it is granted permission to speak their truth. After you’re done, you say a closing phrase (in Aztec it’s “Ometeotl”, in Lakota you’d say “Aho Mitakuye Osin”) then pass the feather to the next person so they can speak their truth.

Ometeotl.

The feather is now in YOUR hands.

Thank you Nancy for sharing your profoundly heart-based response to your experience.Speaking our Truth can be so challenging. Especially when someone else has been spreading unTruth about us.As you say, no one else can ever be you. And there are still millions, if not billions, of people who need the help of every variety of expert. The only time we ever come unstuck is if we forget to be who we truly area and pretend to be someone else.Thank you for being such a shining light. With love,Clare

Amen, Nancy. We're all on a path, and sometimes those paths intersect because of culture, zeitgeist, spiritual calling, business savvy, and a million other reasons. What if everyone who teaches "time management" or "decluttering" or "furniture making" were accused of copying someone else? Just plain nonsense. We each have our own perspective on what we teach and share with others. And we're all on the journey together.

  • http://www.VivaVisibilityBlog.com NancyMarmolejo

I hear ya, Karyn! When I was training to be a teacher, one of my mentors said "There's nothing new under the sun." Meaning, we could teach 1+1=2 with clown suits on, with M&Ms, through chanting, by screaming… but it still added up to 1+1=2.

  • http://www.passionforbusiness.com Karyn Greenstreet

I'm voting for the clown suits. <grin>Seriously, though, Nancy, I'm so sorry you had to go through this. It's not fair and it hurts.

  • natashaallrich

Nancy!I am so glad you chose to fully express your truth. This is so paramount! Just like we each have our own unique fingerprints, none of us can be duplicated, cloned or replicated; it might feel familiar to some, but it can never be the same if it comes from within. That's what makes being a 'true' serviced based entrepreneur is all about. Express yourself without apology, so others will be inspired to stand up and do the same!

  • http://www.VivaVisibilityBlog.com NancyMarmolejo

Thank you Natasha! There are people who are indeed copying outright and doing so without a speck of conscience or originality. But those of us working from inspiration and building upon a theme that is truly growing on this planet dance to a different tune."Express yourself without apology" is a perfect way to put it. Thank you for a good friend and colleague.:-)

  • http://virtualeventsuccess.com Leesa Barnes

Uh oh, I'm gonna speak my truth very soon. I've had a draft of a post sitting in my blog for about 8-months now. Your blog post is prompting me to want to publish it (finally). Thanks for having the guts and for encouraging me in a rather indirect way to publish something we spoke about earlier this year.

  • http://twitter.com/SuzanneGerety SuzanneGerety

Nancy,Thank you for such an awesome blog post. As writers, bloggers, speakers, trainers, and coaches it's easy to get stuck thinking that 'everyone already knows all of this' and what have I got to say that would make a difference. But it's when you realize and get very present to how you're 'being' with the message – not just the words – that you can truly make a difference and add your unique perspective.Your statement, "I also started to notice a disturbing trend among social media “experts” and highly visible entrepreneurs: The majority weren’t making any money.", is SPOT on. You have to trust that eventually those who claim expertise versus those that really are the experts will be evident. In the meantime, reputations spread quickly. Most niche's are pretty 'small' when it comes down to it.Producing results, walking the talk, and weaving your own unique vision and mission into your work is what matters. Thanks again for this great post.

  • StaceyHylen

You have such a gift for expressing yourself it is impossible to copy you! Just like Elvis there is only ONE real one!!

  • Catherine Bruns

I can't believe someone would call YOU a copycat! Having been your 'virtual roomie' at CoachU a million years ago, your podcasting partner for a year, your all round friend, and now a participant in your program, there is nobody I trust with my business and life visions more than you. Good job putting your own truthful experience out there with integrity (which is certainly what gossipers lack).

There's only a few ways to roast a chicken, but boy are there A LOT of spices!

  • http://www.VivaVisibilityBlog.com NancyMarmolejo

That's the truth for all of us!

  • http://www.VivaVisibilityBlog.com NancyMarmolejo

Suzannne, thanks for chiming in! Stacey Hylen told me on Twitter that controversy brings out your best writing! "@SuzanneGerety @nancymarmolejo is a great writer and somehow controversy brings out her best writing!"Really honored to have your support.

Oh I can't wait for that one!And just so the world knows, Leesa is one of the people I called to share my "I need to recalibrate" angst. You always help keep things real, honest, and in perspective. :-)

  • http://www.VivaVisibilityBlog.com NancyMarmolejo

It was a million and one years ago! Thanks for coming round with that slice of history. Roomies at Coach U, now that's one we can always call our original. ;-)

Nancy, I read your post and found that every word resonated. I celebrate you for speaking your truth (and well said, btw) emphatically and with humor and compassion. As someone who has taken one of your courses and has followed for quite awhile I find it difficult to imagine that you would ever use someone else's idea without attribution. Just doesn't play for me.I have learned much from you and I am watching now as you start this next phase of your career. Thanks for writing this powerful reminder for all of us.

In February, I went to a lecture at Princeton University by a visiting professor, Kenneth Goldsmith. It was titled "Uncreative Writing: Unoriginal Genius in the Age of the Internet". He talked about the unprecedented availability of writing at hand instantly on every topic. He believes that our concept of authorship will change as a result. Even if you come up with an idea that you think is new, chances are, it's been written about before. While Goldsmith's discussion addressed what constitutes "art", I think his ideas work well in this context. Whole new buzz books are becoming best-sellers, yet you can find the same ideas and language in books that are decades old. Originality is almost meaningless. The value is not defined by the words on the page.If you're intrigued by the idea that it's fairly impossible (and irrelevant) to be original in this era where the entire internet can be cut and pasted, here's a link to a Goldsmith blog post: http://sn.im/vtxh3 I, for one, love the notion of "uncreative writing" and "unoriginal genius". It feels true.

If I wrote my story over the past few years I'm sure that I would be accused of copying exactly what you have outlined here. Some of the things that people say are very hurtful…but the one I always look at strange is the deliverer of the repeated gossip…hmmmm.Wow! what a great perspective. You are absolutely right Nancy, there is only one you and one me and we are called to do what is for us. I can not serve your ideal client as well as you can, nor can you serve mine as well as me. We can however collaborate to come up with a solution that is better than what either of us could have thought up on our own. What I'd like to see is more collaboration and less back biting among professionals and educators. There are certainly enough people in the world who need help; and how can we help them if we are so busy pointing fingers at each other?Hippocrates on gossip: "Whatever, in connection with my professional service, or not in connection with it, I see or hear, in the life of men, which ought not to be spoken of abroad, I will not divulge, as reckoning that all such should be kept secret."

  • http://www.YourTalentAdvantage.com Lynda-Ross Vega

What a terrifc post! One of the unfortunate by-products of becoming well known is unfounded public criticism. As a society we see it happen daily to entertainers and politicians – obviously some criticsm is based on fact and opposing views – but many times people in the spotlight are subjected to unreasonable levels of unwarranted scrutiny resulting in out of context conclusions and truly unfounded criticism. No one can stop it from happening. The real test is how a person deals with it.

Nancy, you've set the bar for us all! You met it directly with class and integrity, with great insight, forgiveness, and clarity. Absolutely outstanding!

  • http://www.VivaVisibilityBlog.com NancyMarmolejo

Great response, Andrea! Thanks for that. And your observation really struck me:"We can however collaborate to come up with a solution that is better than what either of us could have thought up on our own. "I just witnessed a wonderful incident of this happening. Two people doing similar work finding where they overlap and where they differ. The real winners? The people these talented people serve.:-)

  • http://www.VivaVisibilityBlog.com NancyMarmolejo

Thank you Barbara, really fascinating! And I realize the other day I wrote a post using the phrase "Tipping Point". When Malcolm Gladwell published that book, I think he realized that letting "Tipping Point" get into the vocabulary of our society wasn't hurting him in any way, he's seen always as the big name with that phrase.Thank you for sharing that wonderful insight.

  • http://www.VivaVisibilityBlog.com NancyMarmolejo

Thank you Allen! And I so appreciate your observations. Change is hard and not everyone will celebrate when we go in different directions. That's life, isn't it? :-)

  • shawndriscoll

Nancy, Great post that provides brilliant context for us all.I think when faced with this kind of swirling negativity we have two choices…jump into the vortex and hop on board the injustice of it all, or, stay out of it and elevate the conversation. I love how you've elevated the conversation.

  • sandramartini

Hi Nancy,Fabulous post! Written with SUCH integrity and authenticity that it had me wholeheartedly cheering and agreeing throughout. We all bring our own experiences, histories, and personalities to everything we do and no matter how similar something may appear, we're all unique in the way we share our gifts and our medicine. Thanks for sharing your experience and giving your readers the gift of learning from it.Love,Sandy

  • SuzanneFalterBarns

Boy … am I glad we're playing on the same team. NOTE TO ALL WHO THINK COPYING GOES ON AMONG US INFO-SOULS ON THE NET: Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, and it's actually pretty irrelevant when you get down to it. A) The integrity breach is in one's karma forever … and must be pretty yucky to live with, so who'd want to steal? B) Our messages look and feel similar a lot now because Spirit is calling us forth to create enlightenment out of chaos. So mainly because we're all playing on the same team, no?As someone who's walked an amazingly parallel path for years with you, I honor (AS EVER) just where you are today, Nancita. I will always hold you as one of my highest sources of walking inspiration and I thank Spirit you are on the planet. Now I'll pass the feather.

  • http://www.VivaVisibilityBlog.com NancyMarmolejo

Suzanne, you have said it all. Thank you. I hope this opens up the conversation for so many others. How many times have I called you and said, "Suzanne, we're hovering over the same areas right now, let's talk about how to make this a 'both-and' instead of an 'either/or'". Remember on the last call I did for one of your groups someone asked "So Nancy, what IS the difference between you and Suzanne?" I chuckled. On the outside… well we both help people get known, we are heart based, we attract similar clients. On the inside… we both carry our special medicine, not meant to clash but to complement. When people can see past it to the essence level, we are all incomparable.I joyously pass the feather to the next commenter. :-)

  • http://www.facebook.com/linda.pucci Linda Pucci

Well said, Nancy. You bring your authenticity to every thing you do, so it is always clear to me that that is where you are coming from. You haven't "jumped on the bandwagon" because something is popular; you do what you do from your heart–and it shows.

  • Anonymous

Hi Nancita! Good column. Great points. There are only so many ideas. Each of us adds value by expressing them and combining them in ways that are uniquely our own. And each of our unique combinations will attract a different cluster of distinctive beings. And that's the power each of us brings to the work we do. Each brings colour, tone and texture. And there is room – and need – in this world for it all. Brava!
    Hugs – Susanna

Oh, how often people lash out at others when they are experiencing lack.Nancy, I simply can't see you as a copycat – you are such an original! I thank you for writing this post, because I've been struggling with this feeling regarding my new business, <a href="http://www.savvyfreelancewriters.com” target=”_blank”>www.savvyfreelancewriters.com. I mean, there are a gazillion blogs "out there" discussing freelance writing. Who am I to add to the mix? Thank you for answering that question and reminding me that we are all unique and wonderful with our own special messages to convey. Thank you for sharing your inner thoughts on this so eloquently!

  • http://www.bizboostergoddess.com Chrissy Caeliss

Thank you for the turn with the feather :) Nancy, I wish I had something like your powerful article a long time ago. I spent YEARS trying to create a business that was totally unique in every single way before I copped on to how silly that was. I was wasting my own brilliance, my business and spiritual expertise, because my own work was copied without credit a few times and I didn't want to do that to anyone else by accident. I had not yet learned the difference between copying and modeling. What is the point of learning from teachers/coaches/mentors if we don't model them in some way? What is the point of teaching/coaching/mentoring if our clients can't model us? I encourage all my clients to model, not copy, me. No matter how much one tries to copy you, even if they name themselves Nancy as you said, you are unique and no one else can be you. Just about every book and film is based in some format on The Hero's Journey – yet what a wealth of unique stories we have in this world!I've been following you for quite a while and I've been in Suzanne's programs. You're both so gifted in what you do and you both feel quite different to me even when you talk on the same topic.Thank you for sharing your experience so candidly and powerfully. You've inspired many people besides me today I'm sure!Passing on the feather … :) Chrissy

Dear Nancy, you know I love you so no more comments needed here. Suzanne said it well anyway. So, I am trying to add a comment of a different nature. I'll try it with a short story:"5 Italian Restaurant owners make the same pizza, pasta and lasagna…for years. From the outside, there is no difference. They all taste great and all contain the same amount of calories ;-) . 1 owner's intention is to make the largest possible profit and he adds additives to his dough. Still the same great taste but now it's being harmful to the consumer.1 owner's intention is make more servings out of the same sheet of lasagna. So, the portions are a bit smaller and the guests consume more garlic bread, no big deal I guess…unless you mind paying good money for white bread…1 owner's intention is to raise his prices and he creates amazing titles for his food and write succulent descriptions for his meals. People pour in and pay more for the same old food.1 owner doesn't really think that his food is as good as the others and he adds tons of noodles to his dishes. Result: Lots of unconsumed food…and huge waists…And then there is the ONE owner who's intention is to love and serve and cherish his clientele and he pours his love into each of his dishes. He greets people at the door, he checks in during their meal, he shares personal stories with his clients and just LOVES serving his folks. Yes, on the outside all the same but on the inside only one holds the love that makes his restaurant a landmark, a legend, a center of the town and him a happy, fulfilled and beloved human.I believe you know who you are! Keep it up my friend. in love,Christiane

Nancy, I love this post for 2 reasons.1. I used to block in my art because I thought I had to be so original and couldn't get ideas from others. What a freedom and flood of creativity came when I let that belief go.2. I've wondered what the best way to deal with gossip about me was. This is great. Now, I feel the freedom to go out and express myself in all these cool ideas. Thank you!

Got the feather! My turn….I stand to salute you for your wholesomeness, honesty, courage, backbone, and elegant flair to tell it like it is, for what it is, with mindfullness of consequences ….and yet….I see and feel the compassion in your heart, for those who've chosen the opposite side of your street. This is soooo you! – A few years ago I shared my perspective of you, and that is… "You love because you are LOVE." I couldn't even say that about some of my closest relatives! – This is one truth, that carries you over any derailments no matter who nor what caused it, simply because you are LOVE. Which is exactly the very thing you conceived last year and now it's being born with "I Heart My Biz", while you help others to "Heart Theirs" – …and you're the copy? Ha, they don't have a clue. Well done, Nancita!…and before I pass "the Feather", let me say: "I Heart Your Heart".

Hola Nancy,I have been following you for a while now and hope to have the privilege of coaching with you SOON. The reason that you catch my eye and that I want YOU to coach me is not because of your brand, your website, your specialty, or your message. The main reason I want you for a mentor is because of who YOU are as a person. You are unique, loving, and down-to-earth. Who else has shared a story about growing up in the Flea Market and learning marketing from vendors? That is ALL you, Nancy. Don't ever change and don't waste your time on haters. Thanks for ALL you said so forthrightly while holding the feather…and for passing it on for whatever anyone else had to say. Yes you are indeed a powerful woman and it's an honor to know and work with you, to watch you transforming the world around you, and to share work both where it overlaps and where it doesn't.

I believe we are ALL working to reach the same center. Our paths cross, diverge, come back together and interweave in amazing and beautiful patterns, and the beauty that is all of us together is so much more than any one of us could be separately.

Thank you for being EXACTLY who you are. Honored to know ya, ma'am!

Hi Nancy!I really love your post, and I'd like to say a couple of things. There was a baseball coach, I don't remember the name anymore, who wasn't exactly loved by the fans of the team. Everywhere he went, people bood him. A journalist asked him: "Don't you mind that people boo you everywhere you go?" And the coach said: "No, because people don't boo nobodies." There was a movie director, whose new movie was being severly criticized. When a journalist asked him how he felt, he said: "I laugh at those critics each time I go to the bank."Today it's not that difficult to become an expert. There are people who will write your blog posts, your books, create your programs. All you need to do is put your name on them and claim them yours. People may even like them and pay for them, but are you being authentic? Are you being you? Are you living your essence? I don't think so.Most marketing experts (and I've met many) tell you who you should be and what you should do. When you say: "I don't really think this is me," they reply: "Well, too bad, because this is the only way to do things." For a long time I listened to them and I paid a lot of money for not being authentic because I believed that was the only way to "be". And I learned the hard way that this is not the way to go. As a member of your Profitable Essence program, I know that my strength is my authenticity. The way I think, the way I speak, the way I write, the way I see the world. All I need to do to succeed is to be me. Yes, it may take longer. Yes, it may be less easy. But I want people to want me, and not an artificial product created by marketing experts. You are YOU. You are unique. You are Delicious. And I'm honored to know you. And guess what? People who are worthy of you don't listen to gossip. Who cares about the booing crowd? I don't :)

Thank you for putting so much heart into this response, Barbora. Its wonderful hearing your experience and I'm happy and honored that the Profitable Essence program touched you the way it did! One thing this experience has shown (yet again) is the importance of transparency and immediate response. Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

Nancy, Thank you so much for sharing on this subject! As an intuitive artist, I find that good ideas often show up at the same time in many different places from many different people – whether it's pictures, logos, or words. I believe when we get a good idea, we owe it to others to share it. And if someone else is doing the same thing – Well…….That's even better!Hoarding ideas feels to me a lot like hoarding money. And I choose to live in a universe of abundance, not scarcity. What if there really is enough for everyone?????Gold Stars to You!!! I can't wait for the I Heart My Biz Event!!!!All the best,Catherine

Thank you Catherine! And I'm going to toot your horn here a minute, but I want people to know that YOU Catherine Morris are an amazing healer with such a gift to share with the world. Your Foundation Meditation has touched the lives of everyone in the Profitable Essence program and without it, a lot of people would not have stepped up so enthusiastically to embrace their intuitive gifts. Thank you for what you do, the way you've helped me through the many years I've known you, and for reminding us that we live in a world of abundance!:-)

    Nancy,

You are such a wonderful model for everyone! I love how you speak your truth. Your blog post is right on!

It is funny, last week I saw someone that I admire on Twitter, post about a program that he was offering. I clicked on this link and was totally blown away…in a bad way. What I saw was basically my offering that I am working on, laid out for everyone to see …with fabulous copy…and totally speaking to what I am trying to speak to. My first thought was "WTF?? Dude…how can I compete with this…Dudes copying me!!" and then I snapped back into the "Good Reality" and realized that no body is copying anyone and we are not speaking to the exact same audience at all, but we are talking about this same thing more or less. So, I could read his copy, notice the slight difference between his audience and mine, and make my offering more specifically directed to MY Peeps. It is all good.

I think there is great value in many different people talking about the same thing, but in their unique voice. That is the only way YOUR people will hear you…and we all have "our" people that are out there waiting to hear what we all have to offer.

    Rock On Nancy!

Nancy, I love your response to this cruel gossip and all the comments around it.

I know some of the people you have studied with. Probably you have used what you have learned…it would be silly to ignore info we have paid for if we found it useful…but you have used it in ways so uniquely YOU that it is unidentifiable. I've followed you since 2004 and studied with you. Same with Suzanne F-B. Until you pointed it out, I hadn't even considered that you were similar, since what I have gotten from each of you has been so different.

We are each unique. I've been in workshops where 20 artists view a demonstration & receive a suggested assignment. When each is finished, the results are so different you wouldn't know that they were all in the same room. That's one of the wonderful things about creativity.

    Thanks for sharing your medicine!!!

    Nancy,

Thank you for sharing and reminding us that we are ADULTS and that gossip and spreading rumors is grade school stuff! I've noticed that the only way to really have a truly original idea – go back to the beginning of time and be the 1st one there! Then, yours will always be the 1st. Haven't people noticed that "original" ideas have been copied, changed, modified by just about everyone? Hmm what came first Coke or Pepsi? Who came first Ford or Benz? This goes on and on.

Thank you for being gracious and classy in your response to the rumor spreading – you are a class act.

You speak such truth with such heart, Nancy and I appreciate that so much. in my mind, ALL ideas are in the public domain, yours, mine, everyone's. If we're thinking dualistically then it's Yours vs Mine. If we get that we're all ONE then me getting inspired by yo,u or you by me, or anyone else, is part of the game, And what a delicous game it is! The fingerprint vibe we each bring is our point of attraction…not even really the content. I'm in this as a spiritual teacher who's learned some valuable things about how to get heart-based businesses out to the world to do the good they intend, but in reality, this is just another context for spiritual learning, growing and evolving. That's MY medicine–that ALL of it is about the spiritual path of awakening. Thank you for your presence and your transparency. You are AWESOME, sister!

My comment…rock the frig on!! You go with your truth and bold self-expression. Who frickin' cares if you're singing your song, doing what you love to do and changing the world in the process. Bob Proctor taught me years ago there's plenty for everyone…and recently Loral reminded me – don't look right or left..it'll play with your head.

You have inspired me since the day we meet oh comadre and bellefriend of mine. I love it when a rebelicious bellefriend announces her truth!!
