Lou, I loved the numbers at first and then as I began to really look at my followers I realized that many were spollowers. It takes some time, but is well worth the effort to clean up our lists.

Thanks Nancy for the post! I look forward to your follow up post.

Lou, I couldn't agree with you more! It has taken me quite some time just to get the small group I have right now. You might say I have a list of criteria that determines if I want to follow, ignore or block my followers. I had a follower recently who claimed he had the magic ticket to getting 5000 followers a week on Twitter. When I looked at his following, he had less than 150. Let's just say that he shares a special place with the porn stars on my blocked list.
Thank you Terri Z for the @Spam info! That's good to know.
Great post Lou...it was great!
And thank you , Nancy, for all you do!

Thanks for the comments! I have to admit that I'm a reformed numbers chaser. But once I dug in and saw how freaky some of those followers were, I started manually pruning. (Sorry @sweetbuns101, that's not my cup of tea!) I've still got plenty of spollowers, but I'm blocking more every day.

BTW, if you liked this post, you'll LOVE my new Twitter parody song at: http://bit.ly/jyyx4 (With apologies to Bob Dylan!)

Thanks,

Lou

Lou, you really hit a nerve! Thanks for the great post. And appreciate everyone's comments. I have a follow up post coming soon, wanted to share some of my guidelines for pruning the list.

Hi Lou,

I couldn't agree more! In addition to the "Spollowers", we have those who fell in love with Twitter for oh, say a day, and then never posted again. Let's call them the "1 Tweetollowers" (after 1 Hit Wonders) -- more fluff and junk in our Follower figure.

Once again, it comes down to quality, not quantity.

Thanks for a great post!

@SandraMartini :-)
